To see Byron dancing in a music video for country music’s Josh Turner, you’d think he’s never had a care in the world.  Then you notice his artificial leg and you know there’s more to the story.  Byron once lived on the streets, addicted to drugs and alcohol, and he almost died there.  His leg was shot off in a gang shooting.   When he left the hospital, he was homeless and felt he had no reason to live.  Because of his background and his physical condition, no one would give him work.  No one, except Goodwill.

“Having someone believe in me made all the difference,” says Byron.  Still on crutches, he began working at a Goodwill donations trailer.   It was the first positive step.  Others followed. Byron owns a home now.  He’s married to the “love of his life,” Frances, and he’s a deacon at his church.  And that’s the real reason Byron can dance for joy.

You give more than you know when you give to Goodwill.  So we hope you don’t mind if we ask you to give one thing more.  Please take the time to give a word of encouragement to Byron.  It means a lot to him and to us knowing there are others who share the spirit of Goodwill.  Email your encouragement, inquiries, suggestions or comments to:
